think ive commented on here before on my view that Mexico 86 was a watershed moment ; the Souness resurgence at rangers ; then not too long after Ireland are on our screens for first time (in any real way) and are re-branded as a 'home' nation - the start of OF fans migrating to watch other countries (on tv) losing interest in National team , as club allegiances become stronger (ranger champs lge run etc) rangers fans wearing england tops / celtic fans wearing Ireland tops tbh was a bit of a shock to be openly goaded about supporting your national team - stadium bar by ibrox before either Italy or Portugal game USA 94 qualifiers (tbh it put me off so much i was out of it for about 10yrs after) watching a crap game - getting home 2am ish didn't help then ; back at it - Berti/Walter ; home game , some Irish pub on way to hampden ; you guessed it .....

1:20 save i would think ? rest he seems to gather comfortably with both hands ; routine saves i had it in my head tom boyd was clean thro on goal ; but not that clear cut as it turns out should duncan shearer have been at Euro 96 ? - too similar to gordon durie ??

One particular game v W Germany in WC 86 leighton had a number of great saves i recall ; not one standing out tho seemingly at ibrox v sweden too - but think a few were one on ones ..? does Stewart Kennedy saving the post at wembley count ……

WC 90 1 pt from last 3 games…. yugoslavia & france away - norway at home i think we actually’travel’ better now tho - our away games in 80s were typically damage limitation - although recall in yugoslavia and france the wheels came off the bus our first away game in oslo i thought roxburgh has set us up very positively - if you watch the 2nd goal - see how many of our players are in and around their box spain away i think we ll get it handed to us unfortunately

My last competitive away game was milan ; 2005/6 ? I did comment to my mate that pre game ‘bonhomie’ did seem to be flat these days - hes been to loads over the years but agreed ;and mentioned the phone dependency did seem more of a remote group / clique thing these days ; seemed in past was more solo fans / randoms / outlander gear / party costumes etc

Am not sure when the leaving early : logistical obsession started for the masses ; but was intrigued by couple of TA guys in front of us in larnaca ( away end ) discussing when to leave to make a getaway in rental car… to put into context there was barely any traffic around stadium - the 5/6 k away fans were mostly bussed ie leaving later , seemed just cars parked on wasteland outside- we just walked and tbh seen more congestion leaving Cove ( but bit more ofa travel:time:cost commitment) its crept into the game the same way as “ can take my family to the game as the burgers and drinks are so expensive “ eg it’s mandatory to add that to price of tickets as people have lost ability to last 90 mins without food / feed themselves/ think for themselves Been in london/cyprus for few weeks i am now seriously contemplating the idea that a stealth ‘ invasion of the bodysnatchers ‘ is occurring- vapid tatooed vaping fvckwits seem everywhere only a few years away and we ll see pitbulls on easyjet

Have the misfortune of being in a hotel bar in ayia napa; watching the end of the getafe v barcelona game enough to make me take up croquet or quoits ; may just be moden football tho as Ukraine v england was pretty boring too but the theatrics in a 0-0 (spanish) game are hard to believe athletici v real now on ; but not interested unfortunate thing is lower leagues seem to follow the same pattern of saftey first / possession football - recent trips to cove have proved that maybe am just stuck in the last millennium pre tiki taki era

owner of Meeting Pub appears to be happy ....... great staff & service too for being so busy - some places just too hot & stuffy to be indoors - nice open place with view of beach and palm trees walked to/from game last night - didn't see that many folk ; so bit of a mini march ..... beer at bbq at bottom of hill to the stadium
