I see Clarke apparently didn't talk to Shankland about leaving him out. Just picked the team and that was that.

Was hoping Shankland would start. If he is to be more than a bit part squad player, he needs to get his chance to make his mark, or cement his place, and where better than at home in a friendly like this. Otherwise, it must knock your confidence as a striker if you know that one miss and you're out. Even if he is not a long term, world class prospect etc, we need a on-form and confident striker competing for a place, not an out of sorts, on the back foot striker, if we are to have any chance.

Absolutely. I hope we get this out of our system now and not against Germany. We don't want a 'played well, hard luck' story then. We want a result.
