  1. 'On Target' is a bit deceptive. Sure, we've not had a large amount of attacking play, but we have hit the woodwork a number of times in the past few games, had chances going just wide/over, chances blocked and chances that never led to a shot. You could have ten shots on target in a game from firing them straight at the keeper from 30 yards and never come close to scoring. It's clear our tactics have been more about not conceding than scoring, but that means we only need to score once if we can hold out the opposition.

  3. If this international break proves anything its that fans should put more faith/trust in our players before shelling out derogatory terms or lambasting them. Before these games we had Gallagher and O'Donnell being lambasted and both have made big contributions to our week. We also had people slating Fraser and then the calling up of Considine at 33 but has been excellent. I'd like to think people may think twice now before slating players who are called up but somehow I doubt it.

  5. The Nations League position would lock in our pot for the Euro 2024 qualifiers - win the group and it's Pot 2; anything other than being the one of the worst three last-placed teams (which isn't possible anyway now) would be Pot 3. --- In terms of the World Rankings, it's worth remembering last year(?) FIFA changed to an ELO based system - where teams directly take points off of each other, than an unconnected accumulation of points over a set time period. Both Serbia and Slovakia are above us in the rankings, so even drawing against them will take points off of them. Wins would

  6. Cooper, McKenna, Palmer, Tierney, Robertson, Fleck, Armstrong, Christie, Gilmour, Burke, Forrest, Shankland, Griffiths....all missing last night. Some players were playing their third match in 7 days. The performance wasn't perfect but the result was. I've seen us play better and not win. I'm delighted at the moment and Steve Clarke has got some bid decisions ahead of the Serbia match. I just hope we are able to select our best players for the squad.

  8. Considine, Gallagher and SOD this week have proven me totally wrong. Delightfully so too I hasten to add. Full credit to all three of them, honest lads who play with hard work and quality in their games.

  11. Just a wee review of how I thought the players performed during the international break. Feel free to smash the ratings. Haven’t done this since after Georgia Hampden / Paris 2007 Goalie Marshall Very commanding in the box but surprisingly had very little to do over the three matches, an accolade for the defence / midfield. When he was called upon did very well. 8 out of 10 Defence O’Donnell The much maligned right back is never going to be the next Cafu but his attitude and commitment is second to none. Think he might have nailed down his place for Serbia and ha

  14. Under Craig Brown we were organized, well drilled, the players knew their jobs, inside and out and they seemed to have a club atmosphere. Yes, we squeaked out some results, but I remember us playing some lovely stuff. We had the like of Collins, McAllister and Lambert. All three were maestros. They could play. As for the then me, and the now me. I thought three at the back suited us best then, and I think it suits us best now. Have done since Berti shook things up.

  16. No. We aren't playing well, at all. We will, though. We're keeping our shape well, and that's because of the system we're now playing and because the players are learning it. It's no coincidence that our upturn has coincided with a change in system. There's a reason our previous three managers have all tried a three. I'd say that it was an off-night. And, no doubt that it will happen, as it's football. I just found it hilarious how people were justifying not playing a three by pointing to a single match (the Israel match in 2018). Football isn't complex. Football is won and lost in

  18. We were good in the first half but in the 2nd half we tired a bit. The replacements were not as good as those they replaced so the quality wasnt the same. Using words like poor and abysmal to describe those efforts is wrong IMO. We won those games with big players missing from our squad yet its job done.

Chripper can revel in his own glory, he can hold his head up high knowing that he alone came up with 3 at the back and guided scotland to the play off and top of the nations league group.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  20. Definite headaches for Clarke now for the Serbia game which is a great thing although i think Dykes, Fraser and McGinn should be nailed on as they just look like they click and we should go with it. Also Marshall, Mctominay and Gallagher have earned their start. For other central defender then choice between McKenna, Cooper, Considine. I would pick Cooper who has experience of being against Mitrovic. For me wing backs would be Robertson and Tierney and dont care if both left footers, the gulf in quality between them and the other choices is huge. Then its a choice of 2 between

  21. Funny old game indeed. Decent first half, horrendous second (to watch as a fan) and whilst we had our fair share of luck with their misses ; I thought Gallagher and big Andy were superb. A huge appreciation for Considine, he was terrific in both games and at 33, what a story it is. Gallagher hasn't had a bad game in a Scotland shirt , IMO. McGinn is such a huge asset to us. He really was terrific again tonight. His passion and tenacity is outstanding and admirable. Fraser and Dykes is an interesting and potential great partnership. I thought McBurnie did ok when he came on too

  22. People need to remember that is almost a 2nd string X1 out there tonight and a patched up job for the last 3. But what a bloody performance. Jack and McGinn work so well together; such reassurance. Dykes and Fraser, it just works. Dykes has really impressed me but needs to cut out the petulance, his stamp was a red. Big Considine mate the step up and performed well and Gallacher was a man mountain. If everyone is fit for the next 3 games Clarke has some headache for his squad and X1

  27. So few people are aware of what was done to AS but it is going to be a long few months of damaging revelations and speculations. What should be raising a few eyebrows is that the 'unionist media' are so far largely ignoring all of it. That is seemingly to protect Nicola while they are in contrast wildly aggressive with Alex and his supporters. The fact Loon is still holding on is perhaps the board's canary in the coal mine. He is still alive for now. The SNP have no political competition in Scotland. They are not going to get voted out the next election. No one including folk

  29. 4-2-3-1 is a god awful formation, it only ever works well where the front 4 are bordering on genius level eg Chelsea under Jose, where they were rock solid at the back but still able to open most defences. With the back 4 that Scotland play it's highly suspect in the centre and it nullifies the attacking strength of the fullbacks. Even if the defence is well drilled and the full backs in particular are disciplined, its still so weak the coach feels obliged to play two defensive mids. The sad reality is that Scotland haven't got any combination of just 4 players to be effective in midfield a

  30. It is horses for courses for me in terms of system based on what we have available and our opponents. When we have our strongest players all available to us, we play better as a four at the back, allowing for more width further up the park. See Albania away last year and Israel at home as well as Cyprus at home for the positive contributions wide players have made. However, in games against better opposition or where we lose the likes of Fraser, Tierney and Robertson, we should theoretically be more solid playing a 3/5 at the back. We struggled in Israel but I would argue with hind

Robertson30 Mcginn 30 Gilmour 23 Christie29 Fraser 30 dykes 29 I would rather not speculate on guys like morrison or King making it big when the chances are they won't. We have top players right now that are mostly below 26 and should be around in 4 years. Keepers tend to be able to play at the top until they are 40 so Marshall should hopeful
