  1. Past hour
  2. I'm sympathetic but then I remind myself that Lee Anderson was a coalminer and Jonathan Gullus a school teacher
  3. How should people become politicians? This is a genuine question I am not being narky. Should there be a ‘path’ to follow? Most politicians dont just appear as a cabinet ministers ( its at this level the big decisions are made) from nowhere so they should have some general political experience before they make the bigger decisions. Are we saying that isnt good enough and to get a cabinet position they need to have had some sort of experience at a lower level within that area and demonstrated competency to a high level ? Or have worked at a high level within the NHS before becoming a politician and taking on a position in health for example? Or be a teacher before getting education? And as far as becoming an MP/MSP in the first place , do they need to have been for example a councillor for so many years and obtained some sort of qualification ? I don’t think politicians are any different to any other job in as much as there will always be shirkers and those who are not up to the job. You get shite call centre workers/ builders/ mechanics/ etc etc. All these people the public are paying money to in some way or other, its not just politicians. You are always going to get some that are only there for a wage.
  4. Totally agree, we should of gave one of our attacking midfielders a go to see if this could work as a false 9, I genuinely think this would improve our team. Even at Bologna, Ferguson is playing just behind Joshua Zirkzee but is often further forward than him as Zirkzee drops very deep to act as another attacking midfielder and then Ferguson makes a lot of forward runs. This would work very well for us if we could do something similar IMO. Can't see Clarke ever doing this unfortunately. I wonder if in the next year or so, Doak will be tried there since we don't play with wingers and sure he's played CF for the youth team.

  6. Got an email from SSC just now, said loyalty points will be added ‘as soon as possible’ not like them to be vague !
  7. Norway had a cracking team then but I remember us having a really good team back then also. We were in the same pot as them so wouldn't say we were punching above getting a draw with them. Them beating Brazil shows how well of a team we had IMO to be getting a draw with Norway. The Morocco game was a complete disaster that no one saw coming though
  8. I wonder if McTominay has been considered up front. I'm not massively in favour but I don't see the harm in trying. He's got the pace and strength and his youth years as a winger would be helpful. He's not always the most influential in midfield in terms of dictating play but his goals and energy are. These may be transferable skills and a good way to fit Ferguson or McGregor into the team. Probably a bit late now to test for the Euros.
  9. Disappointed of course, but Norway were much stronger in '98 than now (undefeated in qualifying, though in a weak group as top seeds). Again a draw for us was punching above. I was mightily pissed off at a Craig Brown interview before the Morocco game though, in which he sounded as if 3 points were in the bag. You'd have loved his positivity 😋 As an old guy I go now with hope rather than expectation now for the good of my health 😄
  10. You can't seriously use the Norway and Georgia games in particular as examples? Norway at home - Clark in goal, Taylor at LB, Brown up top, McClean LM - Players who are nowhere near good enough even off the bench (barring Mcclean when closing a game out) so no point even reviewing this as all of these guys won't be near the first 11 Georgia - Clark iand Taylor starting, eurghhhh! Terrible performance, just devoid of any creativity. Again, didn't even bother starting Ferguson or try out Doig at LB who has a higher ceiling than Taylor Holland - Played well in spells but got absolutely hammered second half in particular, scoreline doesn't lie... Chrstie - we know what he is capable of in that AM role, why not play him in the position where he has been excelling in the one of the best leagues in the world - a little baffling. Wingers - Why don't we have any of these in the team? Everyone can see this so it is just baffling. NI - They completely snuffed us out due to the pattern of plays we were doing and have been doing for a very long time now that are predictable. It'll be even worse against the better teams. People need to get their head out the arse that not everything is rosie and questions have to be asked. As said before, I really like Clarke and has done great for us but that doesn't mean he can't be criticised either
  11. If anything that isn't grasping anything then it is yourself, I haven't said once we have a prolific goalscorer in our team... I cba debating this point anymore
  12. More awful optics today by Humza It's as if he wants the SNP vote to dwindle
  13. Hiya Scotty, nice to see you in a different thread. Do you mean like we did against Georgia away and Norway at home, where we started with a different formation to our usual 5-4-1? Or Amsterdam last week where Christie was up with Shankland from the start in a 5-3-2 or 5-3-1-1. Certainly caught the Dutch by surprise, till they figured out we were having a goal drought.
  14. I'm a little more positive about this result now mainly because I think it meant a lot more to Northern Ireland. McGinn, Robertson and McTominay all still have a lot to play for in the league and if they're not at 100%, nor are we. I think NI shocked them as they were super aggressive for a friendly and I can understand our players not wanting to get injured. I aldi think a bit of complacency has set in around certain players as they kniw they're assured of a place in the starting 11. Clarke could have dropped McGinn or McTominay for Ferguson in one of these games to get that message across. I think Patterson will come good but not until he gets out of Everton. We probably overperformed in qualifying and underperformed in our recent friendlies.
  15. You do not seem to grasp we do not have a goalscoring forward at international level. The nearest we have will be Shankland who I think will start in Germany but I do not expect bucket loads of goals from him. When we were on a winning streak last year it was without a prolific goalscorer and if we refind that form then similarly, unless Shankland surprises me, we will do it again via goals from largely midfield with the odd goal from strikers and defence.
  16. I just disagree, it's unrealistic to expect our midfield to continually score and then not have a goalscoring forward in the team is just limiting our chances of winning games.
  17. No its called playing to our strengths and being realistic. Our midfield is our strength. McGinn almost has as many goals for us as Ally McCoist. After Dykes our next top scorer is McTominay. Our attackers are what they are. They try their very best but we cannot rely on them to transform into prolific international goalscorers. Harsh but realistic. The closest we have to it I'd say is Shankland but would you bank on him scoring a hatful in Germany?
  18. and what happens when the midfielders top scoring? When strikers continually missing sitters? You can look all over the world in any league or international game that it is the strikers that usually bang them in as they are the ones with the most chances to score as they're further forward player. Your theory is short sighted
  19. Well there was actually a Plan B. When Robertson went off he was replaced with Lewis Ferguson. If no Plan B he could easily replaced him with Greg Taylor. So we went from 5-4-1 to 4-5-1. It took time but we faired better with the four at the back with no Robertson there. Perhaps something Clarke learnt. However, I'd maybe have liked to have seen us start with two strikers but there you go.
  20. Ehm... well actually trying out a different style of playing before the match starts would help so we can keep the opposition from knowing how we build up our play which is very predictable these days once again
  21. As I said we have shown we can get big results with goals from all over the pitch. It is far more important to score goals less important who scores them. We simply do not have the greatest strikers available to us but as long as goals come from other sources we can still be competitive. At present I'd say we should start with Shankland up front in the June friendlies and go from there.
  22. As well as the midfielders have been scoring goals, we need the strikers to be contributing regularly as it's unlikely the likes of McT and McGinn will be in the sort of form they have been in the qualifying campaign, it's just not sustainable. Most chances will fall to the striker so we need to be trying out as many options as we can here
  23. Would a "Plan B" include changing formation by putting Lewis Ferguson on when Robertson goes off injured? Cause he tried that on Tuesday and it didn't have much impact...
  24. Actually, I disagree. On our good run of form and results our goals were chiefly coming from midfield with McGinn and then McTominay weighing in with our goals with the odd goal from strikers and it got us by. I do not care who scores and it really doesn't matter who does as long as we do.
