aaid
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, did it make a sound?
phart
Well that depends on what sound means, is it the qualia in our head, or the disturbance of air? No to the former yes to the latter.
phart
That's another one away http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-42977072 Seems all the senior police in Scotland are suspended for something. Would could have seen it happening.

phart
Aye Stephen House is being brought in, although the head of the met is Cressida Dick who was in Charge of the Charles De Menezes Debacle. Dick and her officer lied to cover their shit but still got promoted it's almost as if they actually did a good job despite what is being said publicly. In fact he is being brought in to "sort the problems with disclosure of evidence", he was told to feck off cause he wouldn't disclose the shit he was doing!!! "Scotland Yard Commissioner Cressida Dick has brought a senior officer out of retirement to deal with the outcry over disclosure of evidence. Sir Steve House, former Chief Constable of Police Scotland, who has also previously served with the Metropolitan Police, is being brought in as it reviews hundreds of cases that could be affected by the issue." We got rid of Pound cause of disclosure issues, now he is in charge of sorting out disclosure issues in the MET, he's had so much expertise a covering up his own BS he gets a job with the MET to do so. Ummm....I know it's a technicality but he resigned from Police Scotland. He wasn't 'got rid of' though granted the political and media pressure at the time might have meant he felt he had no option. phart
More secrecy and cover-ups. A top police chief has slammed "ineptitude" at Police Scotland which "prevented" him from carrying out a full-scale misconduct probe. Durham Constabulary was called in after Scottish officers were found to have obtained communications data without judicial permission during an inquiry. But Michael Barton said came up against a "culture of secrecy" in the force. The chief constable said he wanted "everybody put into a sack and shaken up and told, for heaven's sake fix it". Police Scotland said a full investigation had eventually been carried out, adding that there had been "significant organisational learning" from the case. Seven Police Scotland officers from the counter corruption unit (CCU) were cleared of misconduct in January following a lengthy investigation involving several police forces. Officers were found to have obtained communications data without judicial permission while trying to identify a journalist's sources, after information about the Emma Caldwell murder inquiry was leaked. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-43160133
phart
yet more problems Secret police documents leaked to the BBC show attempts were made to "suppress" a report containing claims of serious corruption and criticism of Police Scotland's bosses. The report was commissioned by then-Chief Constable Sir Stephen House in 2014, a year after the new force began. Early drafts of the confidential report show the chief constable's office wanted negative comments deleted. A section where officers described a culture of fear was also removed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-43923469
phart
I see Police Scotland are rebranding "Orange Walks" as "Boyne Parade" Police Scotland needs an Augean Stables type clean of their senior figures, those that haven't had to be moved on that is. phart
Have a read of this. Poor guy films ex police-man talking to a guy who was parked illegally and the cover-up etc, eventually had to go to appeal must have cost a fortune all cause an ex-policeman lied and everyone on the force went to back him up. The crime his mate was parked a bit dodgy. https://pirc.scot/media/1644/150-15_-_chr_.pdf
phart
Another case of lying and then covering it up. Five cops face probe after innocent man locked in prison full of sex offenders for days https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/five-cops-arrested-after-innocent-12674390 Same case " Police Investigations and Review Commissioners Kate Frame wrote to MSPs warning that force chiefs’ handling of the mistaken-identity case “suggests an endeavour” to keep “matters hidden”. In a scathing attack, she accused top brass of refusing to admit “serious failings” in its handling of serious complaints. Ms Frame also accused the national force of “resistance” after she publicly raised concerns at Holyrood last week over it launching probes into itself – rather then referring serious allegations to her or prosecutors. The watchdogs highlighted their conduct in mistaken-identity complaint, where innocent man Gary Webb, 58, man was unlawfully locked up for four days after being arrested at his house. Cops probed and rejected his complaint themselves after labelling it a “Quality of Service” issue – a low-level category for concerns such as people being unhappy with call-out delays. https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/3482820/police-scotland-pirc-kate-frame-arrest-hidden-truth/
phart
Another great idea by the police. Police and other investigative bodies are putting children’s lives in danger by using them as spies, a children’s charity has said. The Home Office is facing a High Court challenge from Just for Kids Law over the use of children as covert human intelligence sources (CHIS). The charity said it puts them at risk of ‘severe physical and emotional harm’, and that a lack of safeguards breaches human rights laws. The case, being brought against Home Secretary Sajid Javid, will be heard in London on Tuesday. https://metro.co.uk/2019/06/11/girl-17-recruited-police-spy-man-sexually-exploited-9898201/ The charity’s worst fears were confirmed by a shocking case revealed in the House of Lords in October concerning a 17-year-old girl who was recruited by police to spy on a man who had been sexually exploiting her. While she was deployed as a covert informant, she continued to be exploited by him, and was even coerced into being accessory to murder. phart
A former board member of Scotland’s police watchdog yesterday blamed her “spineless” former colleagues for the organisation lurching from crisis to crisis. phart
Critics of devices that allow police to gather data from mobile phones or laptops are pandering to “sensationalist” human rights fears, Police Scotland’s watchdog has claimed. Officers are expected to be issued over the summer with “cyberkiosks”, devices the size of an iPad that can scan mobile devices for evidence, despite lingering concerns about their legality. Susan Deacon, chairwoman of the Scottish Police Authority (SPA), said that critics were living in a “time warp”. She pointed out that Iain Livingstone, Police Scotland chief constable, had said repeatedly that the devices did not breach human rights and he had legal advice to support that view. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/scotland/police-data-scanners-critics-are-living-in-a-time-warp-says-spa-chief-susan-deacon-hsg7rnxvj
