Fairweather fans? "now their team are a bit shite" weve been average for years, granted we have'nt exactly set the world alight and the last world cup was a shocker but i think you'd swap qualification records over the last decade or so !! Huddersfield
I'm still here but I don't know if I even count as a fairweather fan. The last time I saw England live Trevor Francis & Peter Withe scored. Withe's career highlight was of course to come later when he made 30-odd appearances for Huddersfield Town in the 89-90 Third Division season. ZoltanBuchan
'Fair-weather fans'? They barely spoke about their national team, and when they did, they were very realistic about them ie never thought they had any chance of a winning a tournament. Would they get more people going to England games if they started playing matches "up North" in Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool or Leeds ? I imagine that there's loads of working class guys in the North of England who would love to attend international games again and take their kids to their first ever match but the price of travel down to London, not to mention the bother of travelling and the price of match tickets themselves put many off going. They apparently had over 82,000 at Wembley on Saturday for their game against Slovenia.

Would probably be an idea to play their friendlies around the country and get more people attending those games. To a man the (regular) English posters on here seem like good guys. The English are good chaps in my book. Have came across many that support our independence too.

They probably wouldn't get bigger crowds as nowhere has the capacity of Wembley but it would make the games more accessible for sure. I sort of promised my lad throughout his childhood we'd try to get to an England game but cost has always been a massive issue & Macclesfield away in the rain always seemed a more attractive proposition truth be told. Most clubs in the North have a handful of lads that get to most England games. I lost interest when I moved away from London.
Huddersfield
The other factor now as well is the debt on Wembley...they play every bloody game they can there now.

Fairweather fans? Bloody cheek! Fairweather? England have disappointed me for pretty much my whole life! (And I'm nearly 17 now.) You can count my posts in this section of the forum on one hand, I've only ever really posted in General Football and Anything Goes. I calmed my posting rate down in the run up to the indy vote because it wasn't anything to do with me really, and it seemed 80% (at least as it got closer) of topics were about it. It just got a bit tiresome reading the same topic over, and over again. For what it's worth, I enjoyed the match tonight. Thought England rose to the challenge well and were worth the win. Always thought Dave in London was a good lad. Thank you, Sir.
