Jayden Stockley

Jayden stockley is playing for Exeter v Lincoln in the league 2 play off semi finals. 12 months ago he was playing for Aberdeen in the Scottish cup final. This is the level of Scottish football and make no mistake of it. The fact that management are willing to bring in foreign players of that calibre over giving a Scottish youth a chance should be a national embarrassment.

You suggesting Scottish football league 2 level ?

You could easy put it as a Scottish team take's a punt on a lower league player from England, who turns out to be a bit of a huddy and couldent hack it up in Scotland so dropped back down to a level he came from.

Lots of players wind up playing a lower level than what they did before. Doesn't mean Aberdeen are english league 2 level or the spl is English league 2 level. Look at David goodwillie, he plays for Clyde now but was a star in the spl, doesn't mean the spl is the same standard as Scottish league 2. Just means stockley probably got decent money to play in league 2 in England and decided to take it. Look at mulgrew he plays in league 1, does that mean Celtic are league 1 standard because mulgrew has decided to stick with blackburn. Saying that the spl, especially the lower half is probably similar standard to English league 1 so it's not beyond comprehension that stockley is playing for a team looking to be promoted to that league.

Just one of a number of poor signings by McInnes that were moved on before they get their coat off.

To be fair, Stockley did come with a “ok” (at best) scoring record in the English lower league (nothing fantastic, but things like 3 goals in 8 games on loan here, 7 goals in 10 games there etc etc), but just did not work for him up here.

Whether it worked for him or not

He was only ever an average at best lump of a forward

A physical presence

Why go looking for that abroad

I think It's a dead-end trying to find a single league to compare to the SPL. Scotland's not a large country so there is naturally a great difference in quality between the top and the bottom. The top of the SPL could be English Prem level whilst the bottom could be League 1 (or whatever).

Stockley was shite in Scotland, in which universe does him doing well down in England = our league being league 2 standard. 🤣🤣🤣

Exactly.

The season he has had should be shutting up the folk who claim that.

Just like a lot of results in the Challenge Cup should be shutting up the self-loathing clowns that compare our top flight to those in Wales and NI.

If you put any of our spl teams in the premiership apart from Celtic they would be relegated.  Even Celtic would struggle to stay up.  the spl is about lower championship/league 1 level.

You can't say that with certainty because our clubs would then have access to the vast rivers of money like the English teams have.

Any Scottish striker (young or old) who can score goals will be worth their weight in gold, also given Aberdeen have been entering Europe before WC/Euro finals have been taking place, we have to have most our business done by the middle of June, so we have to go for whatever is available and whatever we can afford (which unfortunately is the likes of Stockley.... that is just the sad reality).

Saying that, we have just signed Lewis Ferguson from Hamilton Accies (and that was on a free transfer), so we are prepared to look at Scottish youth.

I think much of the SPL is similar to league 2

Which makes it even more farcical that the club's won't give more youngsters a chance

What clubs don't give youngsters a chance?

Think Celtic had 7 players that came through their youth system on the pitch yesterday, Hearts likewise.

Killie had guys like Taylor, Kiltie, Brophy,, Wilson, Cameron all feature and all whom are eligble for Scotland 21s. Whilst Findlay is only 22.

Most SPL sides give youth a chance.

The standard up here is better than League 2, that's for sure. You can't use one bit part Aberdeen player who scored 5 gaols up here as a gauge to the standard!

Guys like Gordon Greer, Russell Martin, Joey Barton etc all coasted the Championship down south and have been pish up here.

Agreed, I am just talking about the standard of teams at this point in time.

All about the sky deal  not about the football

I always find it bizarre when anyone compares the two leagues, its one of the most pointless debates in football.

If my auntie had baws she’d be my uncle....   I get that... if you gave Arbroath £100m  a year they would compete.  The point I’m making is that the standard of the teams NOW.... today... that’s where they would be.  Not if they had 100m to spend.
