Three at the back need to be decent players and well drilled.  A long time ago we used it successfully . I see England used it tonight and although they weren't put under much pressure the England back three were all players who are very comfortable with the ball.

Exactly, we don't have the CBs for it (apart from Mulgrew, who is comfortable on the ball and can pass).

BTW, i'm just about old enough to remember when we played it under Brown :beer2:

McKenna is absolutely honking. Typical sheep, bigging someone up who is nowhere near good enough.

McKenna justifiably earned his chance in a very short period of time.

I've said it on here before, he's a hammer thrower, no idea how he's managed to get in the national side. He'll have a decent career in league 1, that's as far as he'll go.

How are we going to blood players if we don't give them a chance?

(He could still be playing for the Scotland Under 21's.)

Bad night for mcleish and a bad night for Scotland. None of the new boys shone and on the contrary McKenna and McTominay were awful. It reminded me of the Berti era and sadly I think we are worse off now than back then

"Oli McBurnie, Scott McTominay and Scott McKenna have not done their chances much harm but for a first match in charge and talk of building excitement and belief, this side simply did not deliver." BBC

You really have a hardon for McKenna

I honestly can't think of much he did wrong. (Correct)

In fact, I think in a forward sense he did well......Can't think of any defensive howlers at all

McKenna had his man covered for the goal.

(Mulgrew didn't.)

Apologies, I can't remember you saying that

I thought (In a non bias way) that he was arguably the best of the newbies

Disappointment in McKenna wasn't something I had considered

Can't agree on McKenna performance. He gave the ball away a lot in the first half and in the second was just part of the general slight improvement. I thought McTominay was poor also but I was half expecting that after all the hype to get him. He's barely started and we're pinning hopes on him shows where we are.

All in all its a feck in messand I've no faith it's going to get any better.

The problem was midfield. McDonald barely moved and did nothing with the ball. Cairney did nothing either. Night and day when Mcgregor and Armstrong came on. Mcburnie did well.

I concur.

Still glad he blooded a few new guys though.

In recent years guys like Robertson, Tierney, McGinn and Armstrong were given a chance quite young and are now key players in the team.

There's another 4iefriendlies and worth trying new faces as McLeish is trying to do. Otherwise we'll still be failing to qualify for another 20 years.

Tonight highlights what a huge player James Forrest is for us.

Things like that are more important than the score in a friendly.

Tierney was decent enough at right back. Don't understand where ppl got this idea that he can't play there.

Exactly. Tge first game he played there for us we were all convinced that was our right back for 10 years. The next few performances weren’t at that level but I don’t think we should take the option off the table.

Easily finish 4th in a group of 5 with them.

So, basically pick the same team that failed last time (McTominay apart) :spin:

Scotland fans are fannies, they deserve all they get!

Mctominay, McGregor, Fraser never played last campaign, also Armstrong and Griffith's played only half the campaign so reality is yer points rubbish, plenty of changes while maintaining the guys who gave us a good second half of the campaign.

I think Tierney at right-back could be a good long term option, but it may depend on what formation we're playing. He seemed decent at centre-back against the Netherlands; could be an option there too.

Probably our best team. Maybe put in McCarthur as he does play in the EPL most weeks. Worrying times ahead.
