That's not quite the way average ability works, but I'm not sure I can explain how^?^ something along the lines of Brazil are 80% we are 10% and  Gibraltar are 1%. solomen islands are 1% the average is a lot more than 10%

Current Rankings only have three countries that are outside Europe or South America, which is probably false. Regards population we need to find a Suarez or a Bale or what ever N. Ireland, Denmark or Iceland have found

Stephen Hawkings spirit says thats a load o shite. I agree with him.

That just your opinion on how averages work, which you’re entitled to of course, but what you are basically saying is the average football team is ranked somewhere in the top 30 and any team below that is below average.

How can almost 85% of countries be below average?

If you use the world rankings to determine the average team’s ability then the average team will be somewhere in the middle of the rankings.

Scotland are better than almost 85% of the world according to the governing body. That’s not below average. The problem is that only 32 out 206 can qualify for the World Cup and 16 (now 24) of 50ish countries can qualify for the euros so the vast majority of countries don’t qualify for the World Cup and over half of European countries don’t qualify for the euros.

It’s actually pretty difficult for a team like us to qualify for the World Cup. Now that the euros are up to 24 teams we should really start qualifying for it semi regularly, if not most of the time (hopefully starting with 2020).

I certainly agree that we’re not a great team. The majority of national teams aren’t that good either though. Look how shite teams like Ireland are when we play them yet they are ranked higher than us and qualify for tournaments regularly.

If McLeish can get his selections and tactics right then there’s no reason that we can’t get to Euro 2020 and get into the low 20s in the rankings and hopefully into pot 2 for the World Cup qualifiers.

Of course it could all go tits up like it did with Levein and Burley.

Must have watched a different game. He was ok, nothing more. Snodgrass and Anya were more prominent imo.
In truth is was probably our central 3 of Fletch, Cairney and Naismith that left us unable to get a grip on the game.. against Canada.

Tom Cairney got an assist and should have had another with Martin's chance. He never put a pass wrong and everyone was so slow in playing him the ball as it was a friendly. He is our best midfielder
