Super_Scotlandfan
https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/bayer-leverkusen-leon-bailey-england-12042341 News story claiming Leon Bailey can play for England due to having Grandparents holding British passports. (According to the Bundesliga website they have English passports!!!! https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/england-keen-on-leon-bailey-for-world-cup-bayer-leverkusen-winger-jamaica-473780.jsp). No mention of these Grandparents being born in England. If this was the case Bailey could play for Scotland too... Surely this is the EFA and the English press not understanding the rules once again. This rule was changed after John Barnes was capped?
DoonTheSlope
He'd be off his head to choose Scotland. He's no allegiance to Scotland other than a technicality through a passport so I can't see him tripping over himself to make himself available to us and he's playing regularly in the Bundesliga so England will be aware of him. If he's any sense at all he'd wait for England to come along possibly Wales if he's looking to play at the highest international level
Ormond
I’m chucking fitba’ if I see a name like Leon Bailey pull on the dark blue. A Nigel Quashie was bad enough.
Grim Jim
The most popular boys & girls names in 2017 were Jack & Oliver, Olivia & Emily. Sorry, can't discriminate on name alone
Super_Scotlandfan
Point is that he’s not eligible and will never be eligible for any British nation. Somehow the English press and FA forget the rules every 6 months.
adamntg
Depends why his grandparents have British passports. If they were born in England then he can play for them.
Jacques Hunt
What a shame. It must be awful to be unsure of your nationality. Even worse for someone to try and persuade you that you are English. However, to reject your country because you think their team is crap. Rotten. N4Footsoldier
Am I missing something? I know technically right if his passport is "British" I can see the point but doesn't necessarily mean he can pick and choose from 4 countries that are recognized as separate by FIFA? Anything to consider that he'd actually be eligible or even WANT to represent Scotland?
Bino's
He can't play for any of us, surely All that stopped after pat van den houw and all that
