SpiderAlba
Just putting this idea out there. In order to get our fringe players and promising youngsters a wee bit of international experience would you support the idea of a "Scotland XI" playing .... The Catalan or Basque national sides ? "Wales XI" or "Republic of Ireland XI" ? Club sides or a national league XI ? With the exception of the first option, these games would probably be played behind closed doors. Being unofficial, there would be no ranking points at stake to worry about and no caps would be awarded for any of these games. There are precedents for this: Some will recall of course during Vogts time in charge that we played a Hong Kong League XI (the SFA still insist it was the actual Hong Kong national team but they are wrong) and around the same time there was also a Scotland XI vs. Dundee Utd match that was played behind closed doors at Tannadice. Further back than that, the SFA sent a Scotland XI on nine match tour world tour in 1967 with games in Israel, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Full details here for the curious - http://www.rsssf.com/tabless/scotlandxi-asotour67.html The one really big problem however would be whether clubs would consent to release players for games that are not officially recognised. A possible group of players I came up with for a hypothetical match ......... Keepers: Archer (Millwall), Ruddy (Oldham) Defenders: C Paterson (Cardiff), Ralston (Celtic), McCrorie (Rangers), McKenna (Aberdeen), Lindsay (Barnsley), Cooper (Leeds), Douglas (Wolves), Bryan (Bristol City) Midfielders: J Paterson (Bristol City), Christie (Aberdeen), Jack (Rangers), McGregor (Celtic), Fleck (Sheffield Utd), Shinnie (Aberdeen), McGinn (Hibs), Taylor (Kilmarnock) Forwards: Russell (Derby), Burke (West Brom), McBurnie (Swansea) It's just a thought anyway. What do you think ? Edited December 17, 2017 by SpiderAlba
wanderer
As these are non-FIFA sanctioned clubs have no obligation to release players, so effectively your squad would look very little like your one and will have more of a z-squad feel, made up of players who have no chance of making main team (so in grand scheme of things they are viewed as a waste of time.....) Also, while they do turn a blind eye to playing unofficial teams, FIFA do not perticuarly like them (sure Wales got into a spot of bother with FIFA at the time) but these teams do seem to be getting more and more attention of late (given the current political climate with Catalonia, would not be wise to play them just now).
