How bad are Bannan and Mcarthur?

McArthur has played in a higher standard of league with better players and against better players for years. McGinn plays in an average league having previously played in a very poor standard league. McGreggor plays for a good team but is mainly a sub.

On what basis are either better than McArthur.

If McGinn was so good a team would have paid 2 million for him in the summer. Can you explain why no scout or manager felt he was good enough to pay such a small few for if he is better than McArthur or as good as many on here make out?

I think there's an odd resentment or reservation for the England-based players amongst many fans on here. I wish we had better players than Bannan & McArthur and others, but there's little to suggest Scottish Premiership stand outs are better than players in the English Championship or bottom end of the EPL. Any player that's a stand out and deemed capable is eventually sold for transfer fees Scottish clubs can't resist.

The England-based players are more used to coming up against bigger, faster players like those they face at international level. Bannan's highly regarded by fans and managers alike. McArthur has an FA Cup winners medal and over 150 games in England's top league. Both of them are fairly obvious squad choices.

We'll need to freshen it up, but the Scottish-based players aren't some panacea to our qualification woes as much as we want them to be.

Bannan is one of the very few players in our squad who is capable to taking the ball in under pressure and trying to find a team mate with his next pass.

at least half our team tonight were so lacking in composure that they were trying to hoof the ball up the park as soon as it came near them and I’d rather have a team of players like Bannan who at least try and play the game properly. Fair enough he isn’t the greatest player in the world but at least he plays with his head up and isn’t afraid to take the ball. Much like Darren fletcher, who comes in for similar stick from our fans.

So people have to play in epl to get a chance? Or play week in week out for one of the worlds biggest clubs(celtic)?

Our total obsession with a mediocre league down south is continuing to destroy our game, but hey its fun to watch on sky, and has good propaganda.

He may well try to find a team mate with his next pass but to little or no effect. Over the two games he made little impact, certainly was never a threat in the opposition boxes and just wasn’t good enough.

Celtic are not one of the worlds biggest clubs any more, their turnover is less than a low premiership team.  Don't get what you are trying to say about the EPL?  It's all about playing at a high standard on a regular basis.  You get that in the CL and the EPL.  Not in the spl... not even close.  Our game was destroyed when we screwed up the to deal with sky and ended up with setanta then cap in hand back to sky.  We are a backwater in financial terms.  Celtic turnover... about £60m...  Man U £400m.....  aberdeen £13m.  It's all about the money.

Can't argue with that. Can't fault his effort but he's piss poor and another who has done nothing in a Scotland shirt. I'd love to know the definition of what a "good game" is to some people.

Agree with this. Ppl seem to think McGregor and McGinn would of done better but they haven't performed significantly better in the spfl to suggest they would. Not to mention the standard of football is better in the lower epl than it is in spfl. It's just a simple fact you are going to pick players playing at the highest level eg Matt Phillips and James morrison than guys playing at a lower level in the spfl. Hopefully we can find a balance whereby the team is built around Celtics core and players who are playing well for mid to lower epl clubs. This is what has happened over the last year or so which has been fundamental imo to the improvements we have made, albeit we couldn't quite conquer the last hurdle and make the playoffs. We need to get rid of one or two players and move forward and keep the ball rolling hopefully integrating guys like burke and Lindsay into the squad. There's alot of doom and gloom but we have about 6 players who are 26 or younger who can over the next 5 or so years form a base to build on. Add to that a few younger guys who will hopefully come through eg burke, souttar(both), Lindsay, Morgan, mallan, then hopefully we can qualify for the euro championships which I believe is achievable given its 24 teams now. World cup may be very long wait though.

deso's all over the place right now. Give him to the morning and see if he calms down.

Bannan was one of our best tonight, as has been said.
That you're raging against him definitely gives off the impression you're just swinging at anything, reality be damned.
