There's a bit of me that says 'Hampden, tradition, history, Hampden' and another bit that says be practical about money and move games around the country. It'd definitely be better if more sensible grounds were used for Cup semifinals, but it's going to be all or nothing.

sbcmfc
Hampden is far from perfect, but I’d miss it. We also lack a football stadium bigger than 20k capacity outside glasgow. So do we end up just giving Rangers and Celtic game about to keep both happy. Shame it’s a financial decision. Would be great if they could build new stands behind either goal closer to the pitch, but suppose that is throwing good money after bad to an extent. Ally Bongo
The fans and the media should be up at Hampden with pitchforks and torches to get the fvckers out before it's too late A bigger bunch of corrupt crooks and gangsters you will never find How the fvck can Scotland be lagging behind the likes of Ireland and Wales where football is not even their national game ? Absolutely, the new stadium's not even 20 years old yet. The SFA were complicit in any design flaws with the rebuild, they should not be allowed to walk away from the place so soon after. Grim Jim
Makes perfect sense. Knock Hampden down and put up a Tescos and some houses and give the marketing men and the blazers the £££ to do what the feck they want. So far so good eh? Exactly, why are we accepting second best yet again!? The renovation of Wembley cost nearly 1 Billion pounds!!!! Surely Hampden can be kept as is or upgraded for a fraction of that cost. Absolute disgrace if we lose our national stadium because of a lack of funds!

I find this odd, given its our national sport. Most of the £800 million for the new Wembley was paid by loans from private London City institutions About a quarter was paid by the FA and a Lottery Commission grant given to Sport England - it had been pledged as part of England's 2006 World Cup bid About £50 million of that came from the Westminster Government and the London Development agency There were probably no Barnett consequentials (would have been £5 million) as the new Wembley would have been deemed as a benefit to the whole of the UK public .... The Millenium stadium in Cardiff cost £121 million £46 million of that came from the Millennium Commission raised through the UK National lottery The rest was made up of loans to the WRU which left them heavily in debt Scotland got money from the Millennium Commission which went to the Falkirk Wheel, Glasgow Science Centre and the Millennium Forest for Scotland project which restored over 22,000 hectares of forest and natural land
Caledonian Craig
There are differences though. Wembley Stadium was tired and out-dated compared to other stadia around the world. The Millennium Stadium as well was Wales first real multi-purpose venue and probably cost what the Hampden re-build cost. The big problem was the Hampden rebuild was seriously flawed as in the design made the possibility of increasing the capacity virtually impossible plus the capacity was paltry compared to Wembley and The Millennium Stadium. The Hampden rebuild was the big chance and those behind its design and those that vetoed it are to blame. Don't get me wrong, Hampden is a Grade 1 stadium and has held Champions League Finals and other big European finals but it is just not expandable now. And as it is a Grade 1 stadium nobody in power is going to give funding for a rebuild as they will see it as not being needed.

DizzyVizion
Hampden needs some work, no doubt. Strip it down and redo the concrete, the facade, the seats, stick a new roof on it and absolutely nail it down contractually as the permanent home of the national team. Before any of that we need Reagan to 'retire' and then finally put an end to the apparent cronyism that exists at the SFA!

Hampden had its big revamp in the 1990s and over £40 million was spent on it. Nobody outwith football is going to see the need for another revamp so soon. As for Regan he'll carry on regardless as those in the SFA are the untouchable ones sadly.

Sadly, I think the best option (given that renovating Hampden seems to be out) is to give up the lease and have our qualifiers at Celtic Park, Ibrox and Murrayfield. Queens Park should think about converting Hampden to an athletics stadium permanently (whilst still playing there) which can bid to host big events like the World and European championships. Doing this and still having Hampden as a concert venue should be enough for them to survive.
DoonTheSlope
Instead of restoring it after the commonwealth games they should have dug deeper
