Put a Price on the Players

Recommended Posts

Here are seven Scottish players aged between nineteen and twenty five. Some have already proven their quality (Armstong and Tierney) others have shown good potential (Lindsay and Cadden).

Stuart Armstrong - Celtic
Kieran Tierney - Celtic
Barrie McKay - Rangers
Jamie Walker - Hearts
Chris Cadden - Motherwell
Liam Lindsay - Partick Thistle
John McGinn - Hibernian

What price tag would you put on each of them ? Taking into account of course, the current ridiculous sums of money that some clubs throw about.

Tierney would be the highest in my opinion, £6,000,000 at least. Armstrong next at about £3,500,000.

As it stands, how would you price them ?

Bit of a cop-out that you've not done it yourself.... :P

I've based it on what i think each player is worth, rather than what they'd be sold for:

Stuart Armstrong - Celtic - £3 Million
Kieran Tierney - Celtic - £6.5 Million
Barrie McKay - Rangers - £600k
Jamie Walker - Hearts - £1 million
Chris Cadden - Motherwell - Not seen him enough to comment
Liam Lindsay - Partick Thistle - £1.25 million
John McGinn - Hibernian - £800k

Ask and ye shall receive

I'm also going to add one more player to my list - Kilmarnock's Greg Kiltie.

Stuart Armstrong - Celtic - £3,500,000
Kieran Tierney - Celtic - £6,000,000
Barrie McKay - Rangers - £700,000
Jamie Walker - Hearts - £900,000
Chris Cadden - Motherwell - £500,000
Liam Lindsay - Partick Thistle - £700,000
John McGinn - Hibernian - £800,000
Greg Kiltie - Kilmarnock - £650,000

Would Celtic currently sell Tierney for £12 million. I think they would maybe turn that down.

I'd like to think that they would, but I reckon that there would be a club willing to bid that for him at least

Time left on contract a huge factor. Anyone with less than 12 months and you looking at peanuts for all of them.

Aye, that was the reason why I didn't include Callum Paterson on the list. He's available for nothing in the summer isn't he ?

Can Hearts claim a small "development fee" at all ?

Think it depends on how old player is when leaves - could be wrong on that though.

The thing Paterson has got in his favour is that he a big strong physical guy and can play as well.

Not convincd that the other guys have got the athleticism and strength for any of the top leagues.

Do people think Armstrong is a target of a club willing to pay a premium fee? He's not that great, certainly no Tierney.

What's a premium fee to you?

He's still young, already a good player and with room for improvement, playing in Europe and for the national team and playing for a club who currently don't have to sell their best players. None of that suggest he's go for anything less than a good fee.

If I was comparing Liam Lindsay to a dog then it wouldn't be a Jack Russell

Are you confusing him with Liam from one direction by any chance?

his best performances have come against Arsenal and Liverpool. he tore both of them to pieces!. against Liverpool he was MOM despite only being on the park 35 minutes.

he's been called up to one squad - GO TEAM STRACHAN

Aye I seen the Arsenal game, he was excellent.

Not convinced with his heading when defending corners though. In Gord we trust

He's practically a hobbit so he's no hope of playing in a strachan team

He's comfortably better than Ritchie or Forrest but I doubt he will get a look in. Strachan will go with his tried, tested and failed names against England.

I think that what may help increase the fees of the Celtic players is the success of players like Forster, VVD and Wanyama in the Premier League, as well as the likes of Ki and Ledley who have done alright.

Clubs can buy from Celtic with a bit more confidence that good players can make the step up in standard.

There aren't many examples of players from other Scottish Prem players doing the same. Even the excellent Fraser took a few years, and a loan season at Ipswich, before he started getting 1st team football.
