For me, we've got to get away from playing 5-3-2 and trying to fit so many primarily defensive minded midfielders into the same team. I realise it is the strongest area of the squad but I feel it leaves us devoid of creativity.
We also now have some Centre half's playing at a decent level, meaning there is not the same need for additional cover in that area of the pitch. Not that the extra bodies has helped us to concede fewer goals anyway.
I'd love to see us line up against Denmark in a 4-3-3 (4-5-1 out of possession). Playing Tierney left wing, in front of Robertson, would allow them to continue operating in much the same way as they have of late when Tierney has brought the ball out of defence and drove forward. The three in centre midfield could be pretty interchangeable, with McGregor, Armstrong, Christie, Jack, Gauld and Turnbull all able to slot in.
The team I'd like to see in September would be:
Marshall
Patterson Hanley Cooper Robertson
Mctominay Mcginn Gilmour
Fraser Tierney
Adams
