  1. I am pretty happy about this - as it was by mutual consent. As long as we don't go cheap-charlie now - or get someone who obviously wants to use it as a springboard back to club management (Moyes et al) - then I will be fine with most options ... as long as there is a commitment towards a squad rebuild.
  2. Got back from Ljubljana late this morning - still hungover and still totally deflated ... The glorious failure thing has worn too thin, I'm afraid ... so will sit at least a couple of campaigns out now (young family, don't need the hassle/heart-break). Over-riding view from yesterday was walking out of the ground / the bus back into the town centre (beautiful BTW). No-one was really angry, everyone quick to point out that LITH at home was the problem. Well, sorry, it wasn't. We knew what we had to do last week ... it was in our own hands etc. After the Slovakia game all we heard was that it was a job "1/2 done, meant nothing unless we finished it off in Slovenia". On top of this, we were 1-0 up (in a game we HAD to win) and had +/-40mins to see it out ... With that in mind, that 2nd half performance was absolutely dire - irrespective of genetics, injuries, no recognisable CB's etc. I won't criticise the manager or the players (what is the point) ... it is just gut-wrenching to witness another, "last-minute" capitulation first hand in a game where 3 points was the be all/end all. Furthermore, there were ranking points there for the taking and the possibility of making life easier w.r.t. future qualification/draws. So, just too much to chuck away in a pathetic last 40mins. To finish, I heard that Stu Cosgrove etc. stated that the TA is getting older ... he is right ... and the SFA must realise that only results/finals will keep the youngsters interested. /rant
  3. Phuk no. Keep WGS for the WCQs. Hopefully he can come up with a Plan B by then. Also hoping he can address the mental defficiencies that - collectively - we seem to have. We settle for too many draws. We give teams too much respect. We can't strangle the life out of a game to get a result (unlike the Irish). I genuinely believe that if we develop a plan B and a bit more belief then we'll be challenging for 2nd position in any group and/or a play-off ... and that is more than respectable given our overall quality compared to other Euro nations (i.e. no world class players like a Lewandowski, Bale, Ibrahimovic etc.).
  4. This WAS a disgrace, no doubt about it. Georgia are mediocre (as are we) and if we are EVER to qualify for a major finals again then we HAVE to be winning this type of game ... so late on in the campaign ... after we have put ourselves in position to qualify. The fact is that our home performances against Germany and Poland will be 100 TIMES better than the drivel we served up last night. Why will this be the case? Lack of travel, heat and unfamiliar surroundings? NONSENSE. It will be because we will be UP for these games a) because of the quality of the opposition and because we have "nothing to lose". Why do we now have "nothing to lose"? Because we just lost a critical match at a critical stage of the campaign ... and our performance was DIRE to boot. We don't learn our lessons ... Georgia away in 2007 anyone? I can handle losing, but the manner in which we lost night was APALLING ... not least the bile that both WGS and SB spouted in the post match interviews. WGS needs to sort out his team selection pronto ... and start selecting people who are on form / scoring goals. /rant
